“FASTING FOR PEACE"
to end the violence between Israel and Palestine
July 15th, 2014. Palo Alto, CA – Joined by multi-faith groups, American Muslim Voice Foundation and SEMAH Inc. are calling upon all Americans to join them for a Jewish/Muslim day of action towards a commitment to peace.
Tuesday, July 15 is a Jewish fasting day (17th of Tammuz) and this year it occurs during the month of Ramadan, in which Muslims fast for a month during daylight hours.
Our quest for peace begins with a dialog and by getting to know each other. It is in that spirit we are opening our hearts and homes to all peace makers and community builders.
We stand in mourning with the individuals who have lost their loved ones and ask the world to join us in collective prayer for peace in that region. It is crucial that all sides recommit their efforts to achieving and maintaining peace in the region. We must do everything in our power to replace the culture of despair, division and violence with the culture of hope, inclusion and peace by working side by side. Let us cross religious and political boundaries to create a better world. Together we can create a world we would be proud to leave behind for our future generations!
As Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. stated “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”
Join us to share a meal together as we break our fast and barriers and please stay for the candlelight vigil.
